Welcome

Welcome

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you! As you are reading this, you may be currently in Year 11 or thinking about moving to another Sixth Form after having started A-levels and I hope that the information contained in this prospectus will provide you with a flavour of life in the Sixth Form at Christ the King Catholic Voluntary Academy. I think that education after GCSE can be one of the most exciting times in one’s educational career and I firmly believe that we at Christ the King offer a range of experiences and opportunities which will prepare young people for higher education or the world of work. Our core mission is to ‘provide the best education for all members of our Living Faith Community’. Our teachers and support staff are extremely committed to our Sixth Form ensuring that all students strive for excellence academically, spiritually and socially. I would very much encourage you to find out more about our Sixth Form provision and in doing so, discover what a special place it can be to learn and study.

I very much look forward to meeting you soon!

Carlo Cuomo – Executive Head

Pastoral care

We are very proud of the pastoral care we offer our students, this ensures that our students make the best progress possible and are fully supported with decisions about their future. Our Sixth Form is divided into 4 tutor groups, each one is attached to one of our Houses meaning that the Sixth Form is an integral part of school life. Students will see their form tutor every day for 20 minutes to receive support with their studies and future aspirations.

For our internal applicants, they will receive detailed one-to-one support in selecting A-levels throughout Year 11 and the Head of Sixth Form will be available on GCSE Results Day to confirm options and discuss any queries about A-levels or the Sixth Form.

Join our 6th Form.

For students wishing to join us in September 2018 we will be offering three subjects.

We offer a wide variety of A level courses, some of which students will have studied at Key Stage 4, and others which are brand new and only available in the Sixth Form.

In addition, we also offer some advanced vocational courses. There are some courses that have a traditional exam focus and there are others where the assessment is project-based and continuous throughout the course.

It is important to make the choices that are right for you. It is recognised that taking purely exam based subjects is not suited to the strengths of a number of students, and spreading assessment throughout the course offers a much greater chance of success. For students who are mainly achieving C grades at GCSE, we recommend a certain number of project-based courses to help balance their workload.

The most important factor in achieving success at Sixth Form is selecting the most appropriate courses at the start of Year 12. We want all our students to leave CtK having been successful in Sixth Form and able to follow the university or employment path of their choice.  The Sixth Form team will work closely with students to ensure they have selected courses that match their academic profile.
