We feel that Drama has a significant role to play in any student’s education, creating and developing confidence and life skills. From this September, Drama is being offered as a discreet subject at Key Stage 3 taught in mixed ability classes. Students will work on specific skills such as the development of dramatic techniques, sounds and vocalisation, role-play, improvisations, characterisation and script work.

Drama continues to be a successful option choice at GSCE, AS and A2 level, where we aim to provide a continuation and extension of the work covered at Key Stage 3 and give the students a chance to follow their interest in this subject to a greater depth while learning a range of drama and theatre skills. It encourages confidence and understanding in a variety of situations, with the development of co-operative skills through working and contributing in a group and class discussions.

The Drama Department is also responsible for producing the annual whole school show and the Sixth Form Christmas pantomime. Recent successes have included West Side Story, Grease, Oliver and Cabaret as well as Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin. The shows were not only enjoyed by the students involved in the productions, but also received much critical acclaim from rapturous audiences. We also encourage students to see as much live theatre as possible and we have worked with the Playhouse Youth theatre to host their production of Anne Frank and we have also hosted the Gedling Youth Theatre workshops.
