Duke of Edinburgh Award Training

March 13, 2015 12:30 pm

Here at Christ the King we take the training of our Duke of Edinburgh candidates very seriously and make sure they have the skills to a higher level than they need them so that they are safe and have the confidence to deal with situations as they arise.

One of these elements we do is First Aid were we hope they never have to use the skills. Miss Craven and Mr Stack have trained the 30 candidates through a very practical nature from cuts and broken bones to dealing with shock and hypothermic walkers.

Week 3 was assessment week and I joined in to put the candidates through their paces! With some stress, changing situations, weather and light elements thrown in, the candidates came through confidently.

Below are a few snap shots ! Huge thanks to Miss Craven and Mr Stack who are now working with the Silver candidates giving them a 2 week refresher course.

This one was actually taken inside a fully functioning “Mountain Shelter” to give students the experience of how to set it up and use it properly.
