Chaplain Joe McCay

Hello everyone,

My name is Joe McCay and I am the Lay Chaplain at Christ the King School since September 2018. I also look after four primary schools – Sacred Heart in Carlton, Saint Margaret Clitherow in Bestwood, Holy Cross, Hucknall and The Good Shepherd in Arnold. I started chaplaincy work in Easter 2018 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far.

I did have a past before I became a chaplain however, and that was as a trainee Catholic priest. I trained as a Catholic priest for four years which led me to some great opportunities and some truly wonderful experiences. I really did enjoy this time in my life but I felt that God was telling me that it was not the right time for me to be a priest, so I left to continue discerning.

Then the opportunity to help the Diocese with chaplaincy arose and the rest is history!

I am a big football fan and have a season ticket at Leeds United. We all have our crosses to bear! I enjoy being with family and friends and sharing my faith with those who I encounter.

Although I am based at Christ the King, I am chaplain to all associated in this hub of schools and therefore if anyone would ever like to contact me, then please feel free to do so on the following contact details:

Telephone – 0115 955 6262 Ext. 156

This invitation is to everyone – student, staff, governor or parents – I would be more than happy to hear from you all, or if you are free, come in and visit!

Thank you for the welcome and I look forward to getting to know you all!
