Year 6 – 7 Transition

Year 6 / 7 Academic Transition Activities

Please find below a number of bridging activities for you to undertake prior to joining us in September. These can be done at home or in your primary school. Please bring this work with you on your first day at Christ the King.

There are also some resources available on the following link which outlines what starting a new school may be like.

Drop Everything & Read

At Christ the King, it is an expectation that students read regularly. To support this, students in Year 7, 8 and 9 ‘Drop Everything And Read’ once a day for 15 minutes to ensure they are on the way to a recommended 30 minutes a day. During the first two years, progress made in DEAR time is continuously tracked via a series of tests, quizzes, and one-to-one discussions with staff.

To ensure students arrive talking about books and ready to quiz, we would like to challenge all our incoming Year 7 students to finish at least one book, and review it using the resources provided, by September. Many students will already be regular and enthusiastic readers, however, should you require some inspiration, a range of appropriate recommendations can be found online:

We look forward to hearing all about your adventures in reading very soon!
