British Values

At Christ the King, we actively promote British Values to ensure that pupils develop into responsible, respectful and active citizens who are prepared for life in modern Britain.

British Values are embedded throughout our curriculum, celebrations of the word, school mission and wider school life.

The British Values are:

Democracy

Pupils are encouraged to have a voice and to share their opinions in a safe and respectful way. This includes class discussions, pupil leadership opportunities and involvement in decision-making via the school council.

We demonstrate this through:

School Council

Personal Development Lessons

Pupil, Staff and Parental Surveys

The Rule of Law

Pupils are taught the importance of rules and laws, whether in school, the local community or wider society. This helps them understand right from wrong and the consequences of actions.

We demonstrate this through:

School behaviour policies

Behaviour assemblies

Personal Development Lessons

Being safe online

School links with the Police, Army and Local Authority

Individual Liberty

We support pupils to develop self-confidence and independence. Pupils are encouraged to make choices, understand their rights and responsibilities, and express themselves safely.

We demonstrate this through:

Sixth Form Ambassadors

Enrichment clubs

Charity fundraising

Anti-bullying Week

Mental Health Week

Mutual Respect

Respect is at the heart of our school values. Pupils learn to treat others with kindness and consideration, valuing differences and showing good manners at all times.

We demonstrate this through:

Celebration of the Word

Our school prayer

CARE and RESPECT

Tolerance of Those with Different Faiths and Beliefs

Pupils are taught to understand and respect different religions, cultures and beliefs. This is achieved through the curriculum, celebrations of the word and by celebrating diversity within our school community.

We demonstrate this through:

RE Lessons

Culture Week

Personal Development lessons

Behaviour policy

Protected Characteristics

Under the Equality Act 2010, schools are required to protect pupils, staff and families from discrimination. At Christ the King, we are committed to promoting equality, inclusion and respect for all.

The protected characteristics are:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender Reassignment
  • Sex
  • Pregnancy and Maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or Belief
  • Marriage or Civil Partnership
  • Sexual Orientation

We work to ensure that no one is treated unfairly or discriminated against because of any protected characteristic. We actively challenge stereotypes and prejudice and promote understanding through teaching, discussion and positive role modelling.

Impact

As a result of our approach:

  • Pupils demonstrate respectful attitudes towards others
  • Behaviour is positive and inclusive
  • Pupils feel safe, valued and able to express themselves
  • Pupils are prepared for life in modern Britain

We regularly review our curriculum and practices to ensure compliance with statutory guidance and to reflect the needs of our school community.
